Hair loss on GLP-1 medications

Hair loss on Wegovy, Zepbound and other GLP-1s: what the labels report, why weight loss can trigger shedding, when it usually settles, and when to see a doctor.

Explains hair loss on GLP-1 medications. In placebo-controlled weight-management trials, hair loss was reported by about 3% of adults on Wegovy 2.4 mg versus 1% on placebo (about 6% at 7.2 mg), 4 to 5% on Zepbound versus 1%, and 4 to 5% on Foundayo versus 2%, far more often in women. The Wegovy and Zepbound labels say it was associated with weight reduction, consistent with telogen effluvium, a usually temporary shedding that the American Academy of Dermatology says can follow losing 20 pounds or more, typically appears a few months after the trigger, and tends to resolve within six to nine months. The page advises not stopping medication without the prescriber, eating enough protein, gentle hair care, and seeing a doctor for patchy loss, scalp symptoms or lasting shedding. It shows how GLPeak weight, dose and journal logs document the timeline.
